Natural Cycles Almanac · an experiment

Cycles, explained

Around the Great Lakes, many natural rhythms run at once: the day, the moon, the seasons, the Pacific Ocean, the sun, cicadas underground, and birds overhead. Each view below shows one of them in 3D, explains in plain words what the picture means, how the rhythms affect each other, how sure we are, and what might come next.

  • Pick a view. Inside, drag to turn it, scroll or pinch to zoom, right-drag or two fingers to move it. Point (or tap) at things for details.
  • Every view has a Key and Controls on the picture, and a text panel you can hide, widen, or read full screen. The picture can go full screen too.
  • Each view has a “how sure are we?” rating.
